Walks & Hikes

For those who enjoy walking and hiking, Marlborough is paradise. From well-established tracks to unexplored nature trails, there’s something for everyone.

If you like to take your time, enjoy a private walk, where you can experience true relaxation and escape. The Queen Charlotte Track is well known for its breathtaking beauty, winding 71km through native New Zealand forest. Take at least a full day to explore this amazing area.

There is also a range of short tracks around the area, from coastal treks to secluded beaches, or the picturesque Essons Valley Dam track through native forest, along a freshwater stream. Motuara Island also offers great tracks, which lead through a bird sanctuary, with amazing views to Ship Cove, known for being the bay that Captain James Cook held anchorage while charting New Zealand.

If you’re after a more organised walk or hike, try one of Marlborough’s many guided tours. Learn about the local Maori legends and the meaning of the area to local Maori.
From wilderness tours along the Queen Charlotte Track, to tours of the Marlborough wine region, you’ll spend the day smiling, whatever you choose to do.

If you’re feeling really adventurous, why not take a cruise through Marlborough Sounds? Experience the thrill of driving the boat yourself, or leave it to the professionals and sit back and relax.
